What was it like being a JW in the 1960's and 1970's

this is obviously a question for the older generation.

i'm really curious what it was like to be a witness in the 60's and 70's?.

was the society as strict as it is today?.

I grew up with a father who was a fanatical is. By six years old I was selling maz. door to door by myself. I had guns pointed at me and dogs order to attack me. People in our area of IL hated jw. My first 4years of school I was always made a example of by the teachers for not saluting the flag. When hoildays came around I usually had to face sitting in a corner in the library as punishment for refusing to celebrate the holiday. I was made fun of for my parents belief's in front of the whole class. If that was not bad enough the PO of our congregation try to kill me for catching him raping my childhood friend. Then the Vietnam war was going great guns all my parents talk about that when I graduate from high school I would no doubt go to prison for not going to war. Finally the big A was coming and if you don't measure up to what God wanted you would die a horrible death. Of course being a teenager at the time most of my thoughts was on my hormones not selling maz. and I knew for sure I was dead meat. The congregations I was with where mostly made up of very old people. Ones who personally knew Russell and Rutherford. They always look on the young ones with a critical eye. No I never felt proud to be a jw. Mostly felt abused by the whole experience. Still Totally ADD

You are all probably right. But the times I walked through them they seemed dimly lit to me. I felt like a mole. Must remember I am a county boy. Even though I like visiting NY city from time to time it is still creepy to me. I am used to open land and fresh air. Love your weeds and happy gardening. Still Totally ADD

Good evening Snowbird. It was 75 degrees today here in western NY. The leaves are coming out in all the trees, apple and pear trees blooming. Sunny, Sunny, sunny day. Solar power rip off! Aussie government destroyed free electricity. Scum!

so my friends have had free power for years thanks to solar panels and a great contract with power company.

they even get credits for having 20 panels on thier roof!

i put 18 solar panels on my roof cost $9900 dollars.

There is no money to be made with individual ownership of solar. Just take stock you are doing something good for yourself and the environment. This country does suck when it comes to anything that is not attach to big oil, pharmaceutical and insurance corporations. Greed is the number one thing with the US and be damn about science and the environment. Ignorance seems to be what makes our country go around. Sorry for the rant but that is how I feel some days. You are welcome Xanthippe. I have been reading a excellent book by Michael Pollan called "In Defense Of Food". I found to be a eye opener for me. My wife who is a herbalist found this book very useful. The one point I like in his book was ( eat only food your great, great grandmother can recognize). Love your weeds. Still Totally ADD

Xanthippe you might know this. Omega 6 which is found in great quantities in most of all are process foods and even commercially raised meat and fish causes obesity and inflammation. It is omega 3 we need more than omega 6. Both needed but omega 3 is the good one. Still Totally ADD

I have always worked hard. I was in masonry construction since 1972. In the late 90's I got into house remoulding. It was easier work and I really enjoyed it. For the last few years I have been working as a wheelchair escort for the local bus service. March first this year I slipped and fell and hurt my back. I am now looking at back surgery. I will soon be 63 this June and I can tell you hard work won't kill you but it can really hurt you. LOL. Still Totally ADD

Bearded students on Ministry school?

so at last nights ministry school we had 2...yes that's right two that had parts and gave them with beards.. i found it interesting.

i thought the consensus was that you couldn't have any extra privileges if you wore one.. maybe the school is different?.

anyway, anybody else seen this in the u.s.?.

I love how they said the house has already served it purpose. How nice of them to acknowledge that. What was it used for? Was it used for keeping Rutherford the drunk out of view of everyone until he died? Of course this is all old light and we of the pure faith don't believe this any more for we have new wacky things to believe in.
